Persephone

March 31, 2008

perfef1.jpgThe Greek God I am most interested in is Persephone. She is the daughter of Zeus and Demeter and the goddess of harvest.Persephone was so beautiful that Hades kidnapped her and made her live with him forever. That upset Demeter so much, that she wouldn’t let anything grow. Zeus knew this wasn’t good. He sent Hermes to tell Hades to let Persephone go. Hades let Persephone go, but gave her a pomegranate before she left. When she ate it, it made her stay in the underworld with Hades for a third of every year. In that time, Demeter won’t make anything grow. That is where we got winter.
